Hello Choristers,
Welcome. This is the first chance I've had to write a proper newletter.
The last few months have been taken up with coding, testing and then, just for variety, more coding.
Thanks largely to Lyra, the site has now reached the point where I can begin to relax and allow it to do
its thing.
We believe we have created a unique publishing system designed to give choirs the best possible
experience. Now all we need to do is provide music that is rewarding and enjoyable to sing.
Personally, I think that sounds easier than writing a single page of code. Lyra would disagree.
In between coding sessions we have managed to write a handful of new works.
Normally we would expect to release one or two new works each month, but as this is our launch period there have been a few extras.
Christmas comes early at SongsforChoirs as we prepare for the September onslaught of requests from choirs preparing seasonal programs and we don't want to disappoint. The office tree helps set the mood of course even though no one can get through the door without knocking off a few baubles. As a result we have a number of imaginative new works for your Christmas programs or services.
Joseph's Prayer is now available. We wanted to write a song about Joseph, the unsung hero of the Nativity. Joseph's Prayer uses the words from Psalm 131 to express to express both his confusion and his joy at the birth of Jesus. This could fit equally well into an Advent or Christmas event.
Gabriel: Non Erit Impossibile is now available. This was an interesting project for us. The intention was to portray an archangel who didn't know how terrifying he was to Mary but also an angel who was becoming rather too excited by the message he was delivering. We decided to omit any narrative and only use Gabriel's words to put the audience/congregation in the place of Mary. So please, go and terrify your audience in Latin.
Bathed in Starlight is now available. The animals gather around the crib and express different Christian qualities in this joyful celebration of the Nativity. We initially wrote this with children in mind but it soon became apparent that this wasn't a children's song at all. We hope you will love it as much as we do.
If I was that Donkey is now available. Sometimes a piece of work takes on it's own direction and this was such a work. I had hoped to write a light-hearted song about a donkey but Lyra's libretto turned it into a moving and emotional lullaby with a surprisingly traditional shape. Not so much a piece for choir but a beautiful feature or possible solo item for a service, school or concert performance.
Thank you for joining us on the beginning of this adventure.
